Srinagar, June 29 -- Kashmir's chief cleric and Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday alleged that he was put under house arrest ahead of his visit to a religious place.
Mirwaiz was scheduled to deliver a sermon at Imam Bara Bemina on the invitation of Aga Syed Haadi as a gesture of Shia-Sunni unity and shared reverence for Hazrat Imam Hussain and the martyrs of Karbala. The visit was aimed at paying tribute to their timeless sacrifice and highlighting the message of unity, peace, and brotherhood inspired by Karbala.
Mirwaiz said he has been placed under house arrest and prevented from attending the gathering.
"Kashmir has always stood as a beacon of mutual respect, brotherhood, and religious harmony," he said.
