New Delhi, March 23 -- A traffic constable was injured after being struck by a car during a routine drunk driving check in West Delhi's Janakpuri, an official said on Sunday.

According to the police, the incident took place around 5:52 pm on Saturday near Bharti College on Lal Sai Marg, where traffic personnel SI Gurdeep Singh and Constable Mohan Pal were carrying out a special drive against drunk driving.

A senior police officer said that the team had signalled a Santro car with a Rajasthan registration number to stop on suspicion.

However, the driver, identified as Nilesh Kumar, a resident of Bagdola in Dwarka, allegedly tried to flee the spot. In doing so, he failed to stop the vehicle and rammed into the constable head-on.
