Hyderabad, July 21 -- Urban governance advocacy organisation Janaagraha on Tuesday said the proposed Core Urban Region (Integrated Governance) Bill, 2026 presents a significant opportunity to reform Hyderabad's metropolitan governance but requires major improvements to ensure accountability, institutional capacity and citizen participation.

Releasing an independent assessment of the Bill at a press conference here, the organisation said the proposed legislation scored 28 per cent on its City-Systems framework, only marginally higher than the 23 per cent scored by the existing Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Act, 1955.
