Munger/Jamui, July 31 -- Members of the Ravidas community in Bharatpur village of Bihar's Jamui district have unanimously resolved to discontinue the traditional practice of organising funeral feasts, saying it places an unnecessary financial burden on bereaved families.

The decision was taken at a community meeting held in Bharatpur village under Paira Matihana Panchayat of Sono block on Thursday. The meeting, chaired by Shambhu Das and Asarfi Das, resolved that no family in the community would organise funeral feasts in future.
