Jammu, May 6 -- Jammu Police today destroyed a rusted mortar shell found in a field in Arnia sector here in the city outskirts.
Police said, "a suspicious, rusted mortar shell was spotted in village Treva of Arnia.""On receiving information regarding the discovery of an old rusted shell in open fields near BOP Vikrant, took an immediate action," said police.
Inspector Chandan Singh, along with the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) team of PCR Jammu, promptly reached the spot and after assessing the situation, the team safely destroyed the unexploded ordnance (UXO) in situ.
The disposal was carried out strictly in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and after taking all necessary precautionary measures, they said.
