New Delhi, June 30 -- Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday marked the 40th anniversary of the signing of the historic Mizoram Peace Accord, calling it a turning point that ended years of insurgency and militancy in the northeastern state.
In a post on social media platform X, Ramesh said the accord, signed on June 30, 1986, came after nearly 15 years of negotiations between the union government and the Mizo National Front (MNF) led by Pu Laldenga.
"Today 40 years ago, the historic Mizoram Peace Accord was signed bringing to an end years of insurgency and militancy," Ramesh said.
