New Delhi, June 24 -- Bhagwan Mahavir Deshna Foundation has written to former union Minister Maneka Gandhi, expressing objection to her reported remarks regarding the Mayur Pichchi (peacock-feather whisk) used by Digambar Jain monks.
In a letter issued by the foundation's director, Manoj Kumar Jain, the organisation stated that the remarks had hurt the sentiments of members of the Jain community and followers of traditional religious practices. The foundation said that the Mayur Pichchi used by Digambar Jain saints is made from naturally shed peacock feathers and is associated with the Jain principle of non-violence (Ahimsa), including the protection of small living beings.
