Jerusalem/Beirut, Aug. 6 -- Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling on southern Lebanon carried into Thursday, Lebanese state media reported, as fighting between the IDF and the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia escalated after Israel announced its first two military fatalities in more than a month.
The latest attacks follow Israeli evacuation warnings issued on Wednesday, the first in several weeks, even as Israeli and Lebanese officials participated in US-mediated talks in Rome aimed at securing a phased Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
