Tel Aviv/ Tehran, March 26 -- Israel has claimed that it killed Alireza Tangsiri, the head of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy. Iran has not yet commented publicly on the claim.

Tangsiri became commander of the IRGC Navy in 2018, after serving as its deputy commander since 2010. He was known for his outspoken criticism of the United States and Israel.

On social media, he often emphasised the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, insisting that "no vessel linked to aggressors against Iran has the right to pass through."In 2019, Tangsiri warned that Iran could close the Strait of Hormuz if its oil exports were threatened.
