Tehran, July 9 -- Iran's powerful paramilitary theocratic guard, the IRGC warned on Thursday that any US involvement in determining shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz would trigger a "forceful response" and could jeopardise efforts to restore maritime traffic through the strategic waterway.

In a statement, the IRGC Navy said American military "adventurism" in the region would threaten the interests of countries dependent on the Strait of Hormuz for trade and energy shipments.

"Any interference in determining shipping routes" would draw a forceful response, the statement said, adding that such actions would "seriously disrupt the process of gradual reopening" of the strait.
