Baghdad, July 29 -- Iraq's National Security Council on Wednesday issued a sharp condemnation of the joint US-Saudi air strikes carried out against Iran-backed armed groups in the country, saying the attacks led to civilian casualties as well as blatantly violated Baghdad's territorial sovereignty.
The council met in an emergency session, chaired by Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi, following overnight strikes that the Iran-aligned Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) said killed at least 20 of its fighters.
In a statement, the Prime Minister's Office said the council "expressed its condemnation and denunciation" of the attacks, which it said had resulted in "the deaths and injuries of a number of innocent martyrs and civilians."The statement add...
