Washington, Aug. 9 -- Iran is seeking greater control over traffic through the Strait of Hormuz as negotiations over reopening the strategic waterway continue, former CIA station chief Dan Hoffman said on Saturday.
Hoffman said he did not expect the United States to hand control of shipping through the strait to Tehran but argued that Iran was seeking to establish itself as a key gatekeeper of the vital maritime route.
"I think Iran wants that to be a casualty of the war for the United States. Iran wants to be a gatekeeper for the Strait of Hormuz now, whether that involves receiving some revenue, imposing tolls - that's another question," Fox news reported Hoffman as saying.
