Tehran, June 26 -- Iran reportedly turned back three foreign oil tankers after they attempted to traverse the Strait of Hormuz via a shipping corridor established by Oman and the UN without Tehran's approval.

As per Iranian state media broadcaster IRIB, the vessels attempted to use a recently established "southern corridor" running close to Oman's coastline. Iranian authorities have rejected the route, insisting that all commercial traffic must continue to use channels designated by Tehran.

The development comes post Oman's Wednesday announcement that it had worked with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) to establish two temporary maritime corridors for helping evacuate stranded vessels and seafarers from the Persian Gulf. One ...
