Tehran, Sept. 6 -- Iran's mission to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has accused the US military of evading responsibility for civilian casualties following what it described as a "cowardly and illegal attack" on an Iranian oil tanker.

The Iranian mission issued the remarks on Sunday in response to a statement from the US Central Command (CENTCOM), which praised the "precision and professionalism" of American forces involved in the attack on the vessel.

The OIC mission criticized CENTCOM's characterization of the operation, arguing that an attack on a commercial oil tanker was not an action that should be celebrated.
