Tehran, May 4 -- : Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps on Monday released a new map outlining what it described as the areas of the Strait of Hormuz under its naval control and management, escalating regional tensions.

The designated zone stretches from a western boundary running between Iran's Qeshm Island and the UAE's Umm al-Quwain emirate, to an eastern boundary between Iran's Mount Mobarak and the emirate of Fujairah, according to Fars News Agency.

The move comes in direct response to President Trump's announcement of "Project Freedom", a US-led operation to escort stranded commercial ships out of the strategic waterway.
