Tehran, Aug. 3 -- Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Monday that it had intercepted and shot down a US MQ-9 drone over the Strait of Hormuz using a newly developed air defense system.

"An MQ-9 drone was intercepted and shot down by the IRGC's new advanced air defense system over the Strait of Hormuz," the IRGC said in a statement published on its Telegram channel.

The IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News also reported that the Guards' aerospace forces had targeted the drone after detecting it in the strategic waterway.
