Tehran, March 21 -- Iran is considering imposing transit fees on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a move that could reshape global energy flows as tensions escalate following recent attacks across the Persian Gulf.

Lawmaker Somayeh Rafiei said parliament is drafting legislation that would require countries using the strategic waterway for shipping, energy transit and food supplies to pay tolls and taxes to Tehran, framing the proposal as compensation for ensuring security along the route, Iran international news reported.
