Tehran, June 19 -- Iran has introduced new rules for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, requiring all vessel owners and captains to register and obtain permits and insurance before entering the strategic waterway.
The regulations were announced Friday by Iran's newly established Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), which said the measures are intended to ensure the "safe passage of commercial vessels."Under the new system, registration and insurance will be provided free of charge during the 60-day period covered by the MOU signed earlier this week between Iran and the US.
