Tehran, June 26 -- Iran on Friday condemned a joint statement issued by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the United States, calling it "interventionist, irresponsible and provocative" and warning against what it described as escalating confrontational policies in the region.

The statement followed a GCC-US ministerial meeting held in Bahrain on June 25, where the US Secretary of State and GCC foreign ministers released a communique that Tehran has firmly rejected.
