Tehran, Aug. 22 -- Iran's leadership has declared that it defeated the United States in the recent war, while Washington moves to intensify economic pressure on Tehran in an effort to force concessions over its nuclear program and the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that the conflict should end because, in Tehran's view, the international community had already recognized Iran's victory.

"The entire world approved our victory and the U.S. is hated," Pezeshkian said, according to Iran's state-run IRNA news agency.

The declaration came as President Donald Trump said Iran would like to reach a deal but was not prepared to accept what Washington considers the necessary terms.
