Sanaa, Sept. 13 -- Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels on Sunday said they targeted a Saudi military base in the Sharurah region with missiles and drones.

Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group had fired a "barrage of ballistic missiles and drones" at weapons depots and command-and-control rooms. He did not provide details on when the attack took place.

The Houthis have recently stepped up attacks against Yemen's Saudi-backed government and expanded their control towards the Red Sea, a vital shipping route linking Asia and Europe.

On Saturday, the Houthis claimed that Saudi forces had carried out 129 airstrikes in areas under their control in Yemen.
