Tehran, June 1 -- Iran on Monday accused the US of continuing to violate the ongoing ceasefire between the two countries, following strikes on a southern port which triggered a brief military flare-up - the second under very similar circumstances in a week.

"The United States is also violating the ceasefire including this morning," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei during a weekly news briefing, and further vowed that Iran would "take whatever measures we deem necessary to defend Iran's national security."Baghaei said the lack of trust between the two sides remained a major obstacle to diplomacy, accusing Washington of constantly changing its position on negotiations, leading to a strong lack of trust.
