Tehran/Muscat, Aug. 6 -- Iran and Oman have agreed on the geographical coordinates of a proposed commercial shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz and are currently finalising a joint statement outlining the arrangement, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Wednesday.

Baghaei said technical negotiations between Tehran and Muscat had been underway for the past two months, covering the route's legal, security, environmental and operational aspects.

"Provided that certain third parties do not obstruct the process, a joint statement by the two countries outlining the main considerations and points agreed upon is also being reviewed and finalized," he said, Iran International reported.
