Hyderabad, March 3 -- Telangana Panchayat Raj, Rural Development and Women and Child Welfare Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka on Tuesday said the accident and loan insurance schemes implemented for women's self-help group (SHG) members have become a strong financial shield, ensuring security for families and strengthening women's economic stability.

In a statement, the Minister said that under these schemes, the government has so far paid Rs 246 crore towards accident insurance and loan insurance claims.

She explained that unexpected deaths of SHG members often place a heavy burden on families and fellow group members, sometimes leading to loan defaults and blacklisting of groups by banks, rendering them inactive.
