Melbourne, March 23 -- South Australia's fringe Test quick Brendan Doggett has been ruled of the Sheffield Shield final because of injury.

The speedster's sore hamstring will prevent him fronting up to Victoria from Thursday as the South Australians chase consecutive Shield triumphs.

Doggett was player of the match in SA's win over Queensland in last year's final, taking 11 wickets at Adelaide's Karen Rolton Oval.

Since the introduction of the Shield final in 1982-83, Doggett is the only player to claim three five-wicket hauls in the competition's deciding match, with one for Queensland (2017-18) and two for SA last year.

But the paceman will be absent for the road trip to face pacesetters Victoria at the Junction Oval.
