Motihari, May 21 -- In a joint operation along the Indo-Nepal border, a team of the Special Task Force (STF) and Raxaul Police seized Rs 30.89 lakh in Indian and Nepalese currency and detained two people in East Champaran district, police said on Thursday.

Officials said the raid was conducted on Wednesday at the premises of trader Mohammad Shahid, who had been under surveillance for suspected involvement in illegal cross-border currency exchange activities.

During the raid, the team recovered Nepali currency amounting to Rs 17,85,100 and Indian cash worth Rs 13,04,150 from the spot. The detained individuals are being interrogated, and efforts are underway to trace other members linked to the network.
