New Delhi, July 27 -- India has warned that the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains "critical", urging shipping companies to "reconsider" non-essential transit through the strategic waterway after monitoring 12 attacks on merchant vessels in the region since early July.
In its latest Regional Maritime Security Advisory, the Directorate General of Shipping's Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) said the maritime security environment across the Strait of Hormuz, Gulf of Aden, Bab-al-Mandab and the Red Sea remains "highly volatile", with hybrid threats, piracy and route-specific risks posing serious challenges to commercial shipping.
