New Delhi, March 26 -- As geopolitical tensions in West Asia continue unabated and the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, the union Government on Thursday maintained that Indian vessels and seafarers in the region are remaining safe with no incident involving Indian flagged vessels in the past 24 hours.

On maritime safety, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways reported that 20 Indian-flagged ships carrying 540 Indian seafarers remain in the western Persian Gulf and are being continuously monitored. The DG Shipping control room, operational 24x7, has so far handled more than 4,000 calls and over 8,000 emails from concerned families and agencies, and has facilitated the safe repatriation of 674 seafarers, including 39 in the past day....
