Chennai, Feb. 27 -- The Indian Navy is having a rethink on its earlier plans to have a base in Chennai, a major coastal metropolis, a senior Naval official, said here on Friday.
"The proposal to have a Naval base in Chennai was studied in detail. As of now it seems the idea may not work out," the official told UNI on the condition of anonymity, on the sidelines of the event held for commissioning the 'warship 'Dolphin Hunter' INS Anjadip, an anti-submarine shallow watercraft, at the Chennai Port here.
Earlier the Indian Navy had plans of expanding its presence in Chennai with a bigger base and was also in consultation with the state government for land allotment and other aspects.
