New Delhi, April 11 -- In a significant boost to India's wildlife conservation efforts, an Indian-born female cheetah has given birth to four cubs in the wild at Kuno National Park, marking a rare and historic event.
The mother, Gamini-KGP12, around 25 months old, had been living in the wild for over a year before giving birth, indicating growing adaptation of the species to Indian conditions.
Officials said the birth of four cubs in the wild is a crucial step toward establishing a self-sustaining cheetah population in India, a key objective of the reintroduction programme.
The development is being seen as a major conservation success, reflecting sustained scientific management and on-ground efforts by wildlife teams at Kuno.
