Thiruvananthapuram, Oct. 7 -- India is witnessing steady growth in natural rubber production and consumption, with the Rubber Board taking several measures to achieve self-sufficiency in domestic production, its Executive Director M. Vasanthagesan said on Wednesday.
Addressing the monthly Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC) meeting held at the Rubber Board in Kottayam under the aegis of the Press Information Bureau, he said India was the world's sixth-largest producer and second-largest consumer of natural rubber.
Natural rubber production increased from 8.75 lakh tonnes in 2024-25 to 9.05 lakh tonnes in 2025-26, while consumption rose from 14.10 lakh tonnes to 14.27 lakh tonnes during the same period.
