New Delhi, May 15 -- India's merchandise trade deficit widened to USD 28.38 billion in April after its imports stood at USD 71.94 billion as compared to its exports of USD 43.56 billion.

India's merchandise imports climbed to USD 71.94 billion from USD 65.38 billion in April 2026, while its exports also increased to USD 43.56 billion in April compared with USD 38.28 billion in the corresponding month last year.

India's total exports for the month of April rose 13.59 per cent year-on-year to an estimated USD 80.80 billion, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The exports were driven by strong growth in sectors such as electronic goods, petroleum products and engineering goods.
