Kolkata, July 29 -- The country's tiger population has risen from 2,226 in 2014 to 3,682, while the number of tiger reserves has increased from 47 to 58, union Forest and Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said on Wednesday.
Addressing the Global Tiger Day 2026 celebrations organised by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), Yadav said India's conservation landscape had witnessed significant growth over the past decade, with the number of elephant reserves rising from 28 to 32.
He said the country's designated Ramsar wetlands had increased from 26 to 100, while the total number of protected areas had risen from 745 in 2014 to 1,134.
