New Delhi, May 27 -- In a major push towards green mobility and clean energy transportation, Indian Railways has approved the country's first indigenously developed hydrogen fuel cell-powered train, paving the way for commercial operations on the Jind-Sonipat section of Northern Railway in Haryana.
The 10-coach train, equipped with a 1,200 KW hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system, is expected to commence operations shortly and will run at a maximum speed of 75 kmph. The project marks India's entry into a select group of nations exploring hydrogen-powered rail transport as a sustainable alternative to conventional diesel and fossil fuel-based systems.
