New Delhi, Sept. 13 -- India's decision to leave out teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi while bringing Sanju Samson back into the playing XI emerged as the key selection talking point after skipper Shreyas Iyer opted to field against Afghanistan in the opening T20 International here on Sunday.

Samson was named as wicketkeeper-batsman in India's XI, alongside Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, while 15-year-old Sooryavanshi was left out of the side.

Iyer confirmed that Sooryavanshi, Washington Sundar and two other players were not included in the playing XI, as India opted for a combination featuring Samson's experience and a strong batting core.
