Neeraj BaliChandigarh, July 17 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday flagged off the country's first hydrogen-powered passenger train on the Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana, making India the fifth country in the world to run trains on this green fuel. The launch places India alongside Germany, France, Sweden, and China, which are the only other nations currently utilizing hydrogen rail technology.
The 10-coach train will cover a distance of 89 kilometres in about two hours, stopping at 14 stations along the route. Officials fixed the passenger fares between Rs 5 and Rs 25 to keep the service affordable for regular commuters. While the train will run at a maximum operating speed of 75 km/h, it has a top design speed capacity of 110 km/h. ...
