Paramaribo, May 8 -- India and Suriname took a new step in their bilateral cooperation with the official handover of a fruit processing plant intended to strengthen the local agro-industry and create new export opportunities, during the visit of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to the South American nation.

The handover of the fruit processing plant at Melk Centrale Paramaribo Agro NV, took place between Minister Melvin Bouva, and EAM Jaishankar, and Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Mike Noersalim.

According to Bouva, the project stems from a commitment made by India during the CARICOM-India Ministerial Meeting in April 2023 to support micro and small enterprises in the region with machinery and technical assistance....
