New Delhi, Aug. 25 -- Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav on Tuesday urged the international community to move away from treating drought as an emergency and instead adopt a preventive, technology-driven approach to build long-term resilience.
Addressing the Ministerial Dialogue on "Accelerating Drought Resilience" during the 17th Conference of Parties (CoP17) of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Yadav said drought had become a major development challenge with implications for water security, food production, biodiversity and economic stability.
