Mumbai, July 9 -- Samajwadi Party's Bhiwandi East MLA Rais Shaikh has demanded that the committee announced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday to prepare the draft of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) should include proper representation from all minority communities, particularly the Muslim community.

MLA Rais Shaikh said that minorities constitute about 20% of Maharashtra's population. "These include six communities: Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs, and Parsis. Among them, Muslims are the largest minority community, making up approximately 11% of the state's total population," said Shaikh.
