New Delhi, July 9 -- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has marginally lowered India's GDP growth forecast for FY2026-27 to 6.4%, citing higher global energy prices and rising geopolitical uncertainties that are expected to weigh on economic activity.

However, the global lender remains optimistic about India's medium-term outlook, projecting growth to rebound to 6.7% in FY2027-28 as external pressures ease.

The revised projection, released in the IMF's July 2026 World Economic Outlook Update, marks a slight reduction from the 6.5% growth estimate made earlier this year. Despite the downgrade, India is expected to retain its position as one of the fastest-growing major economies in the world.
