Bhubaneswar, July 26 -- The Bhubaneswar regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said the depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a deep depression over the next 24 hours before crossing the north Odisha-West Bengal coast between Paradip and Sagar Island around forenoon or noon on Monday, raising the likelihood of widespread heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across the state.
The system, which was centred over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts at 11.30 am, lay about 150 km east of Chandbali and 150 km east-southeast of Balasore.
Moving northwestwards at a speed of 5 kmph, it is expected to strengthen further before making landfall.
