Aizawl, June 9 -- A joint operation carried out by the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police led to the seizure of an Italian-made pistol and the arrest of a suspected arms dealer in Champhai district near the India-Myanmar border, officials said on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by the Assam Rifles, the operation was launched on June 8 following specific intelligence inputs regarding the alleged illegal sale of firearms in Zotevillage, a border settlement in eastern Mizoram.

Acting on the information, troops of the Assam Rifles, in coordination with personnel from Champhai district Police, mounted a targeted operation aimed at intercepting the suspected transaction.
