Kolkata, May 27 -- Hundreds of Bangladeshi nationals continued to gather at the Hakimpur border checkpost in West Bengal's North 24-Parganas district on Wednesday amid growing fears of detention following the state government's move to set up district-level "holding centres" for suspected infiltrators.
Scenes similar to a day ago were witnessed since early morning at the border under Swarupnagar in the Basirhat subdivision, where people waited in long queues carrying bags, trolleys and other belongings for an opportunity to cross over into Bangladesh.
Administrative sources said around 35 to 40 persons were still waiting near the border by Wednesday afternoon, while more arrivals were being reported from nearby areas. Many among those gat...
