Beirut, April 1 -- The Israeli Navy, conducting an overnight strike in Beirut, killed the commander of Hezbollah's Southern Front, Hajj Yusuf Ismail Hashem, who was responsible for many of the Islamist group's military activities in south Lebanon on the Israeli border, amid the IDF's ongoing offensive in the country against the hardline militia.

A senior leader in the organisation, Hashem took over command of the group's Southern Front from his predecessor Ali Karaki in September 2024, after the latter was killed alongside Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli strike.
