Hyderabad, Sept. 14 -- AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday opposed the proposed nationwide implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and National Register of Citizens (NRC), alleging that the measures would disproportionately affect minorities, SCs, STs and migrants.
Reacting to union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement that all 21 NDA-ruled states would implement the UCC before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections and that discussions were underway with allies on a nationwide NRC, Owaisi said it was for the BJP's allies to demonstrate that they had an independent political voice.
