Budapest, March 25 -- Hungary is suspending gas supplies to Ukraine until it begins receiving Russian oil via the Druzhba pipeline, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said. The pipeline, which was damaged earlier this year, is the principal oil supply route for Hungary, as well as for several other Eastern European nations.

Noting that the decision was made at a government meeting, Budapest had accused Kyiv of purposefully damaging the pipeline in order to arm twist it into acceding to its bid to join the European Union, which it had repeatedly vetoed in order to not push the bloc into direct fighting with Russia.
