New Delhi, Sept. 11 -- India's National Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination Campaign has administered more than 80 lakh doses since its launch in February this year, with Uttar Pradesh recording the highest number of vaccinations among states, said health officials on Friday.
The campaign provides a voluntary, single-dose HPV vaccine free of cost to 14-year-old girls at government health facilities, with parental consent. Officials said the programme is aimed at expanding access to HPV vaccination as part of efforts to prevent cervical cancer.
According to the Registrar General of India, estimates for 2021, around 1.2 crore girls form the annual cohort of 14-year-olds eligible to benefit from the programme, officials stated.
