Solan, Sept. 14 -- Wildlife surveillance in the Shivalik foothills has come under scrutiny after the carcass of a swamp deer was recovered from the peripheral forests of Parwanoo, raising concerns over possible poaching in the area.

The carcass was first spotted by local villagers who were collecting cattle fodder. They subsequently alerted panchayat representatives, following which a Forest Department team was dispatched to the site. Officials secured the remains and initiated the prescribed legal procedures.

The exact cause of death has not yet been established. Forest officials have cordoned off the area and are searching for forensic evidence, including possible snares and other indications of hunting. Investigators are also examining...
