Hamirpur(HP), April 11 -- Hamirpur police and a team of the excise and taxation department on Friday evening busted a major illegal liquor racket in the Pratapnagar area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Sadar Police Station in Hamirpur district, and recovered 170 cases of liquor stored there.
The illicit trade was allegedly being conducted under the guise of a grocery store.
During the raid, the prime accused, Sunny Sehgal, managed to evade the police and flee the scene, said an official spokesman.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Excise Department raided Pratapnagar.
The departmental operation lasted for over five hours.
