Kangra, May 18 -- The Congress party-backed candidates made a sweep in nine wards of the Kangra Municipal Council elections, which were conducted successfully with an impressive voter turnout of 75.47 per cent, Returning Officer and SDM Kangra Ishant Jaswal told UNI today.

He informed that out of a total of 7,823 registered voters, 5,904 exercised their franchise. Among them, 2,944 were male voters and 2,960 were female voters.

The results for all nine wards of the Municipal Council were also declared. Out of nine elected members five belonged to Congress party led by Ajay Verma Vice Chairman Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation. Two supported by BJP and two by Dr. Rajesh Sharma Chairman Board of School Education.
